Thanks to the kindness of Alison Haase, we had been working out of Peace by Piece Farm in Chester Springs since August. After months of searching high and low for a farm where our work could take place, we finally found the perfect spot. On November 11, 2011, Spirit began leasing Rocker Fox Farm in Malvern. Special thanks to Dr. Stephanie Bennett for her support of our mission and for opening her beautiful barn to us for Spirit’s exclusive use.

Our Director has allowed us to use her pony, Jubie, for our program. Spirit has also taken in Romy (thank you to Thorncroft), who is ready to begin a new chapter in his life by helping the young people involved with us to recreate themselves and change their lives. Our new home and resources have allowed us to serve four additional youth, bringing our participant count to five. We hope that 2012 opens the door for 10 additional young people to grow and heal through Spirit’s programs.

The event was held on Sunday, October 16, 2011 from 3-6PM.

This year, attendance rose and more people purchased tickets at the door. Our event attendees spent time playing air hockey, pinball, and foosball at this family-friendly event. Hickory, our Director’s greyhound, spent the evening greeting guests and making sure that everyone was having a great time. Many local and national restaurants donated foods for guests to “chow” on during the event.

This year’s musicians were phenomenal, to say the least. Meg Kelly opened the event by playing classical piano. This was the second year in a row that Meg committed her time and talent to Spirit. THANK YOU FOR YOUR DEDICATION, MEG! YOU ARE AWESOME!!! Next on the stage was Lili Anel and her band, who tore up the air in the room with upbeat jazzy “tunes”. Special thank you to Lili for going out on a limb to help us on such short notice. Check out Lili’s website and support her award-winning music. Finally, Bed of Moss, the sister-duo featuring Tara and Rachel Cannon, drew the curtains on the event and took us to close. Huge thank you to our DYNAMITE performers who made the event enjoyable.

A number of individuals and local businesses donated products for our raffles and silent auctions. Without the generosity of these companies and individuals, Spirit wouldn’t exist! We cannot even BEGIN to express our gratitude for their gifts.

Congressman Gerlach met with Aislinn Vaughan (Director), Megan McCormick (Arts Manager), Alison Haase (owner of Peace by Piece Farm), and Grace (participant) to discuss the mission and guiding principles of the organization and Spirit’s plans for the future. Congressman Gerlach proved to be a wealth of knowledge and suggested several funding sources that would potentially support an organization like Spirit. We are deeply appreciative that Congressman Gerlach took the time to visit with a fledgling organization like Spirit and demonstrated his genuine concern for youth and animals.

Megan and Aislinn then spoke to the audience about Spirit Fire Farm. Following their speeches, Captive Kin took the stage and wowed the audience with their “tunes”.  Event attendees munched “chow” between sets and entered raffles to win baskets that were so generously donated by the event sponsors. Then Hillary Wallace blew the crowd away with her powerul voice. Ed Roper followed suit and The Rainy Day Fools brought the event to a close with thier unique trio. The turnout was great, bringing almost 150 guests throughout the afternoon. Spirit made well over their goal thanks to the generosity of donors and attendees.

Megan, Aislinn and Anne Marie used the opportunity to make connections with members of the community. They spoke with individuals and families about the focus of Spirit Fire Farm. They promoted the “Chow & Tunes” fundraiser, collected donations, and spread SFF’s message. The ladies also stressed the need for a program such as SFF in the Phoenixville community and surrounding areas. The girls had a great time interacting with each other and the community. They were grateful to have the chance to spend time with the people of Phoenixville.

Aislinn spoke with members about SFF’s primary purpose, goals, and upcoming fundraiser. She gave the organization’s history and discussed the reasons for her firm and unwavering dedication to Spirit Fire Farm’s mission. Aislinn was extremely honored to be a guest of such a notable community orgranization.

Spirit Fire Farm took Cletus, a 7-year old Lab, to visit with and speak to youth at the Stepping Stone Education Center about humane pet care, the importance of love in a human-animal relationship and the effects of abuse/neglect. The children spoke about their pets and told Aislinn and Stephanie about Lollipop, the class hamster. Every little hand in the room shot up when they were asked, “Who likes animals?” The children were delighted to have Cletus as their guest and took turns petting him and giving him treats. Needless to say, Cletus was happy to be an educator.

Spirit Fire Farm received a beautiful “Thank You” card from the children at Stepping Stone shortly after our visit. They made a list of what they’d learned about dog safety and drew a horse and a dog. Thank you for having us as guests!
